If they do 8, 6 highest ranked Conference Champs 2 at large. 16 10 Conf

Champs and no more than two from a Conference with 8 or 16.

IMHO, they should try 8 and see how that works and learn from that, but no one should get a bye. The Independents need to be required to play another P-5 game Conference Championship weekend, could even require it be the top rated teams that are not in a Conference Championship. That way teams missing the Conference Championship are not at an advantage staying home and not playing.
